[profile] murasaki_1966 and I watched it with my mother (who is a church going Christian). We all had problems with Dawkins' thesis but Mum has the same reservations about the extreme forms of religion (whether Xtian, Jewish or Islamic) that we do.

It was like doing a documentary on alcohol by only interviewing alcholics.

(Except for the bits with the atheists - what they said about their persecution is terrible, but we found it rather non-controversial.)

Mum accepts my atheism and I accept her Christianity - we have so many other things to talk about.

(and our lack of conflict about our differing belief systems was what prompted the play "Faithless" - which may get a revival at the end of the year. Then again - the way our luck has been running - it may not.)

Yesterday, on the ABC news, Hicks was defined as a terrorist supporter (e.g. "David Hicks, terrorist supporter, has arrived in the country.)

On this morning's radio news they've shortened it to terrorist.

Guess they want that government funding badly, huh?

Is the mobile phone blackout in the CBD during Bush's visit meant for terrorists or journalists?

(then I really need to get back to work)

Rachael Kohn gives a stinging critique to Dawkins' documentary in today's SMH.

Her last line is

If Germany in 1933 had been invaded by people in prayer singing "Praise Jesus" instead of Nazis in jackboots it would not have presided over the worst mass killing in history.

Bullshit.

Never been a big fan of fish. Avoid it when I can. Can't get used to the taste.

But [profile] murasaki_1966's a big fish eater. And it's better for me than other meat.

And it's just a Thai fish cake.

Just one Thai fish cake.

Scarfed it down, noting in passing that I still don't like the taste and the room started to swim.

Whoops - must be sympathetic magic at work.

Tried to keep up my end of the conversation whilst the others at lunch shifted in and out of focus.

Made it back to work.

Tried to work.

Gave up and went home.

Lay in bed until the ocean decided to subside.

([profile] murasaki_1966 is still trying to convince me to eat fish. She must have me insured.)
