New Year in Canberra
Had a crap NYE that was basically my own fault, and I'm refusing to apologise to myself. So there.
Saw Kong. Kong too long.
Went to the National Treasures exhibition at the National Library. Tried to find out if the quintessential sound of Australia could be made by bashing Ned Kelly's helmet with Don Bradman's cricket bat. Prevented from doing so by guard. Most amusing exhibit - Pamela Traver's notes to Walt Disney over "Mary Poppins". Came out depressed that our major scientific achievements were: the bionic ear, the Hills Hoist and the wine cask - and this was before the Howard government cut research funding.
New respect for Frederick Deeming, however.
Tried not to get pissed off by mother's partner's behaviour. Wound up getting pissed off by old friends' behaviour.
Resolved never, ever to live in Canberra again.
Only New Year resolution I've been able to keep, so far.
