Fortunately our virus checker removed the attachments (not that we were going to open them anyway) but it did strike me (as it hit both of us at once) that a mutual friend (or friends) of ours was/were not so lucky.

If you're after an antivirus program but don't want to pay the big bucks, may I recommend AVG? It's free, and automatically updates. I've found it better than Macafee's anti-virus crap (which I refuse to link to, even though I paid for it)
