So [livejournal.com profile] ferkster came over yesterday and we worked on the second play, having realised that we can't do justice to Snowtown in ten minutes. It's probably not a good idea to write a comedy after a stomach operation but I didn't pop a staple, so we'll have to try harder next time.

As I'm deprived of the television for some time, I've been catching up on my reading - I've read half of Kaaron Warren's book, The Grinding House - which is extremely good if almost oppressively grim. Not a safe story in the bunch. I realised I need a break from such gloominess (having read up on the Snowtown murders for research we're not going to use yet) so I'm reading Jack Womack's Going, Going, Gone.

And I read [livejournal.com profile] deborahb's story in Agog 3 which has been nominated for an Aurealis. And I didn't get it, though it was beautifully written.

I don't think it's just the pain killers, I think my general English comprehension is slipping. Anyway, Kaaron and Deb's work is so fucking excellent that I'm also trying to get one story out during my exile at home because good writing is truly inspiring.

The television probably blew because the evil Black and White Cat appears to have pissed on it.

We have put a cat trap in the back yard, but not even Tomas and Trixie are dumb enough to go near it.
