The New Doctor

Just watched the Eleventh Hour (I wasn't going too - I didn't like the direction of the new Dr Who, I was getting irritated with Tennant's portrayal and I really didn't like the lazy writing.)

But I was tempted by Moffat's writing (I agree with angriest, he's one of the best television writers in England, if not the world) so I broke, and watched it.

And Steven Moffat has returned the wonder of Dr Who to me,

As has Matt Smith.

I'm looking forward to Dr Who for the first time in years...

There is so much baggage with the program, and the people who watch it... even if most of it is only at the corner of my eye.

But it was pretty good.

I admit I'm prejudiced, but I think Moffat did a good thing by tackling the baggage head on (with the Doctor(s) recap.)

I don't think it was the best Dr Who I've ever seen, but I thought it was the best of the season openers - and I really like the conceit that he was Amy's childhood imaginary friend.

I think it was the weakest of Moffat's Who scripts to date but streets ahead of other Who over the last few years.

There was stuff I didn't like (that overblown music) but it was fun feeling excited again. Certainly the best season opener since 'Rose'.

Agreed - though there's bits that keep coming to me (like paralleling Amy's growing up with the Doctor becoming, well, the Doctor) that I think were quite subtle and effective, and kind of overwhelmed by the music and freneticism.
