Don Watson elegantly argues my position on Peter Costello in today's SMH (may require registration, sorry.)

I believe there's great danger in disposing of Howard as leader (whether by assassination, or other less legitimate means) if it means that Costello or Abbott is going to fill the vacuum (what I used to call "The Dan Quayle defence", but now call "The Dick Cheney defence".)

Damn that's a fine article! (didn't even require registration :-)) Yes, I don't see anyone in the Howard ministry of the calibre of a Holt or a Gorton, true liberals.
Interesting too to see the difference in the opinion of the Costello brothers toward Hillsong. Rev. Tim came right out and said they were heretics as (as this article points out) the 'get rich' mentality is completely at odds with the teachings of the scriptures. They're only fooling themselves of course as they've as much chance of entering the Kingdom of Heaven as a camel has of entering the eye of a needle (yes we pagans do have knowledge of Christian scripture); the Bible tells us so.
But in the meantime these shits can make Earth a pretty shitty place to dwell.
