My word for today

(It pays to increase my word power - I'm trying to make a conscious effort now to look up words I don't understand as soon as I come across them)

Autochthonic - adj : originating where it is found; "the autochthonal fauna of Australia includes the kangaroo"; "autochthonous rocks and people and folktales"; "endemic folkways"; "the Ainu are indigenous to the northernmost islands of Japan" [syn: autochthonal, autochthonous, endemic, indigenous]
