Second night without television

Candlelit dinner.

Lost an E-Bay auction (again).

Watched bit of new CGI Captain Scarlet.

Listed to Media Report which played bit of new Battlestar Galactica in story about how Bit-torrent and "hypercasting" are bypassing the networks. Ironic, because of how I "acquired" Captain Scarlet.

Played Balloon Cup with [livejournal.com profile] murasaki_1966. Won (barely)

Played Lord of the Rings - Sauron ate Frodo alive in Helm's Deep and Sam the Ringbearer decided she was tired anyway.

Found I had inadvertently pissed off [livejournal.com profile] kalenture. Sorry. Here's something you could use at work.

so... it's not like I'm consuming any less media

and it's not like I'm getting any writing done

We bring our own experiences to these discussions, always. I was brought up in an area where people looked DOWN their nose at University students/graduates as being impractical and foolish. The current government fine tunes this to an apparent notion that you need to be studying in one of the 'practical' disciplines for it to have legitimacy. Theirs is also experientially based since they have a background of being lawyers and businessmen. And tertiary institutions are under attack. So I bring all of that into a discussion of the worth of a University degree - perhaps to an innocent situation.

re: '-and my sister'. My experience is more with message boards and blogs where it's assumed that you will need to spell out any reference since it is not the immediate recipient that you are addressing. A Live Journal, despite also being on the Web, has a different flavour so, on balance, you are right and I am wrong. There is a very interesting term for this language set, but such knowledge comes from a Humanities degree so I will not bother to retrieve it from the recesses (if indeed it still resides there)
