Question about Dr Who Xmss Special

Is it just me - or would the kids have burnt to death if they'd gone through the portal on Xmas day as the "caretaker" intended?

Time doesn't run evenly - it would have been either a half hour or 30 years before they burned to death.

I agree the time difference would make all the difference, and a LOT of time would pass on the burned out world until the Xmas day arrival.
