Farewell Facebook
I'm deleting my Facebook account on Sunday night (just sent a message to people on FB giving my other online hangouts including this one - so I'm giving them a chance to respond before I shut it down.)
The New York Times gives a pretty good reason why
I belong to a few social networks and while Facebook is the most populous it is also the most dangerous and demonstrates the most contempt for its users.
(UPDATE) - Here's a fairly indepth (and idiosyncratic) commentary on the issues with Facebook from the notorious Jason Calacanis
And from that piece - here's The Top 10 Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

I'm staying off it until Sunday night (when I delete my account. Of course, I'm going to live tweet it.)

Yay! Death to facebook!
I've been saying for a couple of years now that facebook is a gigantic accident waiting to happen.

And now you're forcing the people who only communicate to you via Facebook to sign up for some other social networking experience if they want to stay in touch?
Well, from now on I'm only going to communicate with you if you're on Facebook. (Well, after this message, that is)
The ball is back in your social networking court my friend.

but where will i see photos from wazza's 50th?
I have to be on it cos work says we all have to have FB accts as part of "social media".
my privacy has already gone out the window since journos all have to have a public profile and branding. it's stressful, and I preferred it otherwise, but that's why i have another public blog now, and opened my FB up to everyone.
