"New England" in Australia is an area due north of Sydney, towards the border of Queensland. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_(Australia))

Hopefully we'll have some photos so you can compare it to Vermont - but it's a bit more like Tennessee - Tamworth is the Country Music Capital of Australia (our equivalent to Nashville.) We're not intending to stay in Tamworth too long...
