And the new leader of the Liberal Party is....

(bongo drums)

Brendon Nelson!!!

Excellent choice for Leader of the Opposition (assuming, of course, they want to remain in opposition)

You beat me to it!

Well, that was the bleeding obvious choice wasn't it? Pick the bloke with no ideas who stuffed Education and then Defence. Bah!

If you check the SMH, Miranda Devine's all behind Nelson. I think that tells us all we need to know. :)

Is she wearing a strap-on?

I admire her practicality. I fully expected a month or two of articles about how Howard hasn't actually gone, regardless of what the bleeding hearts and luvvies think.

Not quite as hilariously fun as Tony Abbott would have been, but it should still keep them in opposition for the foreseable future. Never underestimate the Liberal Party's capacity for shooting itself in the collective foot. And now that the headmaster has gone, they'll be running riot.

Perhaps Nelson's being sacrificed as Opposition leader, so they can save someone else to run for PM next election.

Don't be fooled. Devine is as hard-headed and hearted as t hey come. If Howard had been dumped for Costello, you would have had one column aboutthe greatest of our dear ex-Leader, and then she would have been crawling up Costello's fundament.
