I have no idea either. I was invited into Facebook a few days ago, thought "what the hell, why not" and joined up. Now... what? There seem to be lots of networking possibilities in it, but I'm not sure if I can be arsed to follow them up... LJ seems more than enough for me at the moment.

I can think of plenty of things. But they don't involve computers.....

Judging by your link, Facebook seems to have one major flaw. You can't look at it without joining or registering with it. That may be appealing to people who want to be part of the "in" thing but not to a non-joiner like me. It's like the fitness club near me which won't allow you to check out the facilities until you join up (just to set your mind at rest, this is a story I was told. No way I'd be going to a fitness club. After all, I might end up fit.)

Yep, I see what you mean (I thought I could link directly to the profile, so logged out and tried again - must have been using a cookie or something.)

I wonder if that's the real appeal of it - the exclusivity. After all, it was originally a walled garden for American high school and college students to catch up with each other after graduation.

Much of its functionality appears to be matching personal data (such as sexual availability, politics and religion) with others so I would suspect the major appeal is a "free" online dating service.

Well I just mindlessly invited you after being invited by my sister, who wants growed up piccies of the kids. It's a funny idea to go busting your anonymity this way so not as keen as I am on, say, MySpace or YouTube.

After a few weeks of exposure on Facebook (for want of a better term), it has allowed me to get back in contact with some friends I hadn't seen in years, and it also seems to be the social networking tool that a lot of local theatre people use (which is something I'd been looking for.)

Still not a fan of being bitten by zombies, vampires, werewolves etc - if I wanted that I'd go back to RPGing (shudder!)

One thing that I think is really, really, really (etc) important. Modify your privacy settings (and once I finish my Melbourne trip post, I should go into more detail about this as a main entry.)

As I hate the Myspace interface with a passion, I haven't really dug around your site. I'll go through it at home (for some reason it's a lot faster on Safari.)
