Where they're decided which records to fling at the zombies.

I think it's a great bit of comic writing as it both serves the story and the characters and has the audience wondering if they'd do the same thing under similar circumstances.

Hey, I identified with it (which I think is why Shaun will ultimately prove to be more popular than Hot Fuzz)

Yeah, in many ways it's easier to identify with Shaun of the Dead. The whole "what would I do if I were there?" And who doesn't know someone who'd be much the same even if he'd turned into a zombie?
